Orchard Trees in Little France Park
Published April 1, 2025 by Richard in Tree Time News
Last week we planted a mixture of fruit trees at Little France Park to complement the existing orchard. This was achieved through a volunteer day we delivered in partnership with The Tree Council. We were joined by volunteers from several organisations including SP Energy Networks, Animal Friends Pet Insurance and Ground Control who helped us plant the orchard trees.
We planted a mixture of fruit tree varieties including 6 apple, 3 pear and 3 cherry. These will benefit local wildlife populations including a variety of pollinator species. The tree will also provide foraging opportunities for the local community as well as creating a lovely visual feature in the park.
The volunteers also helped us with woodland management in nearby Craigmillar Castle Park. They learned about amenity woodland management and carried out tasks such as crown lifting and bramble clearing. The goal is to create a woodland space that is more open, safe and accessible for the community to enjoy.
